Esquimalt’s Tree Protection Bylaw
Esquimalt’s Tree Protection Bylaw explains how trees are protected and what you can do to help keep our urban forest healthy.
- You will need a permit to cut, remove or alter a protected tree. This includes trees which are dead, dying, or hazardous.
- You will also be required to obtain a permit to cut, remove or alter a tree that interferes with construction, if no alternatives exist
- You can download a tree cutting permit here.
- Township of Esquimalt website: http://www.esquimalt.ca
- Fines will be applied for all removal or cutting of trees without a permit. Fines range from $250 to $10,000, depending on the circumstances of the tree removal or cutting.
Why Hire a Certified Arborist?
Arborists specialize in the care of individual trees. They are able to identify protected species of trees. They are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper care. Well cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees
Book a consultation to have your property and trees assessed by an ISA certified arborist.
